Today student's in Mrs. MacDonald's class visited Kirby Foods to review several skills they have been working on over several classes. Students practiced skills like dollar up addition, adding and subtracting numbers with decimals, expiration date identification, department and item location, and gathering items needed for a visual recipe activity.
HAMS will be celebrating Homecoming Week with dress up days from September 25-29.
Please be aware the dress code still applies on all days.

It was Alma Mater Day at HAMS. Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University, University of Illinois, Lincoln Christian College, Olivet Nazarene University, Western Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, Aurora University, Mississippi State University, Missouri Valley College, Oklahoma State University, Grand Canyon University, and Purdue University were represented at school today.

Congratulations to our HAMS softball team for advancing to the Regional championship game. The championship is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:30 at home. Come out and support the Cornjerkers!

7th grade HAMS staff members welcomed the first day of reading "The Outsiders" by dressing in the '60s. These "Greasers" and "Socs" are excited to begin this unit!
7th grade science students are busy investigating iodine and starch reactions as well as the effect that cold or room temperature water has on the spread of food coloring.
Our HAMS 8th graders were blessed with a visit from HAHS graduate Evelina Solis today. Evelina is a certified life coach and motivational speaker. She is also the founder and president of Sol2Soul.
6th Grade Families! Band and Choir signups are underway! A Parent Meeting will be held in the John Greer Band room Tuesday August 29th at 6:30pm. This is the perfect opportunity for students to try something new or continue their success. Great memories are made in music!
The HAMS staff is ready for a great 23/24 school year!
Today, HAMS teachers Mrs. Young, Ms. Kennedy, and Mrs. Lee took part in an engaging professional development opportunity in Momence, learning about building positive relationships and a strong educational environment. Leading the day were two nationally known educational experts, Brian Mendler and Gerry Brooks. These HAMS teachers are excited to bring what they've learned to school this fall.
Mrs. Lee’s HAMS 8th grade honors ELA class studied commencement address structure. Then, students wrote and presented their own addresses, wearing mortarboards they created.
Students voted on their top three choices for the Lee-Sie Award of Literary Excellence.

Our 8th graders completed their Holocaust unit by visiting the Courage to Remember Exhibit in Savoy today.
Our HAMS 8th graders were blessed to have Mr. William Gingold visit and share the experiences of his family during the Holocaust. Mr. Gingold was born at a hospital a day prior to it being bombed and destroyed. Tomorrow the 8th graders will be traveling to Champaign to visit the Courage To Remember Exhibit, hosted by the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance. These activities are part of a culminating experience for the 8th grade Holocaust unit.
The middle school agriculture students made models of a cattle loading chute or a livestock shed for their final project. They did an excellent job!
Our 8th Grade Technology Class did an awesome job working on model rockets. Today was a successful launch! #Cornjerkerpride
Students from HAMS that read 40 or more books this year went on a field trip to Barnes & Noble today to purchase books. They also enjoyed having lunch.
As always, the HAMS Band and Chorus sounded amazing during their performances at the Fine Arts Festival!
