Today, the HAMS 7th grade staff welcomed their students to the HAMS “Hunger Games” districts, as a welcome to the ELA unit on the novel. Each classroom — and its teacher — transformed into the subject area “districts” and their leaders. We are looking forward to a fantastic unit! “May the odds be ever in your favor!”

This week, Mrs. Lee’s HAMS 8th grade honors ELA class presented creative cover letters as part of their informational text unit.
Students researched education and skills needed for their dream jobs, as well as their ideal location of work. Then, they presented a “cover letter” promoting why they would be the best fit for the job.
Career options ranged from dentistry, architecture, and foreign diplomacy to diesel mechanics, automotive engineering, fashion design, and counseling.
Students then voted on their choices for the Lee-Sie Award of Literary Excellence.

HAMS January Important Dates
For our last day before break our 8th graders did a "Snowball Writing" activity. The students were all given a story starter they had to continue, using their creative minds. Once they were done they waded up the papers and threw them at the front of the room and then repeated.
Students in Mrs. Mac's Life Skills class celebrated the end of the semester with a bowling trip! They are super excited for next semester as they learn about kitchen appliances, transportation, mechanics/ basic repairs, and technology/internet safety!

Family and friends were treated to a wonderful evening of music by the HAMS and HAHS choirs at the first annual Cookies and Carols event. Thank you to all that made this special night possible.

Today our Middle School Life Skills Class got the opportunity to put their new skills to the test by visiting Country Way Coin Laundry. Students got to walk through in person the steps of using a washer and dryer at the laundromat! Afterwards, they got to enjoy lunch at Rossville Family Restaurant and practice ordering independently! Thank you to both businesses for allowing us to come by today.

Yesterday, our HAMS History of War students visited the War Museum in Danville.
Mrs. Lee’s HAMS Honors ELA class was honored to host author Dennis Noyes in their class today. Mr. Noyes, a Hoopeston native who has traveled the world, shared stories of his adventures, his writing, and his novel, “Yonders, Illinois,” in which the setting is based on his hometown of Hoopeston. Thank you for sharing your time and talent, Mr. Noyes!

HAMS students in Mrs. Schoonover's Science class participated in an egg drop project this week. The students are studying Newton's Laws of Motion. Congratulations to the winners of the egg drop, Samuel Frieden and William Clawson Hensley.
HAMS students interested in participating in girls volleyball this year should plan to attend the informational meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 am in Mr. Jones' classroom.
Congratulations Talin on being the first 6th grader to have breakfast with Mrs. Eighner. Talin read 15 AR books and successfully completed the quizzes to be able to have his giant doughnut from 112!!!
