Today, the HAMS 7th grade staff welcomed their students to the HAMS “Hunger Games” districts, as a welcome to the ELA unit on the novel. Each classroom — and its teacher — transformed into the subject area “districts” and their leaders. We are looking forward to a fantastic unit! “May the odds be ever in your favor!”

This week, Mrs. Lee’s HAMS 8th grade honors ELA class presented creative cover letters as part of their informational text unit. Students researched education and skills needed for their dream jobs, as well as their ideal location of work. Then, they presented a “cover letter” promoting why they would be the best fit for the job. Career options ranged from dentistry, architecture, and foreign diplomacy to diesel mechanics, automotive engineering, fashion design, and counseling. Students then voted on their choices for the Lee-Sie Award of Literary Excellence. Congratulations to our winners: 1st: Libby L. 2nd: A.J. P. 3rd: Chanel H.

For our last day before break our 8th graders did a "Snowball Writing" activity. The students were all given a story starter they had to continue, using their creative minds. Once they were done they waded up the papers and threw them at the front of the room and then repeated.

Today our Middle School Life Skills Class got the opportunity to put their new skills to the test by visiting Country Way Coin Laundry. Students got to walk through in person the steps of using a washer and dryer at the laundromat! Afterwards, they got to enjoy lunch at Rossville Family Restaurant and practice ordering independently! Thank you to both businesses for allowing us to come by today.
