When students surprise everyone and volunteer to read to their peers in 8th Grade ELA--let 'em! #studentledinstruction #cornjerkerpride

The Hoopeston Youth Wrestling Club has asked to share this exciting event! This is their only home meet of the season, and they would love to see familiar faces in the crowd cheering them on. The club includes students from Kindergarten through 8th grade, and they’ve been working hard all season. Please come out Thursday night at 6 PM to show your support and help make it a great night for these young athletes!

Today, the HAMS 7th grade staff welcomed their students to the HAMS “Hunger Games” districts, as a welcome to the ELA unit on the novel. Each classroom — and its teacher — transformed into the subject area “districts” and their leaders. We are looking forward to a fantastic unit! “May the odds be ever in your favor!”

HAMS students are encouraged to participate in our Valentine's Day Spirit Week February 10-14.

Student led in 8th grade ELA this morning, as Mr. Resendez taught us about word meaning and technical language. #cornjerkerpride

Mrs. Fruhling's ELA class is beginning a new podcast this week and diving into what it takes to be a radio reporter/journalist!

This week, Mrs. Lee’s HAMS 8th grade honors ELA class presented creative cover letters as part of their informational text unit.
Students researched education and skills needed for their dream jobs, as well as their ideal location of work. Then, they presented a creative “cover letter” promoting why they would be the best fit for the job.
Career options ranged from construction, architecture, and video game testing, to special education, movie production, baking, real estate, and professional singing.
Students then voted on their choices for the Lee-Sie Award of Literary Excellence.
Congratulations to our winners:
1st: Aerah R.
2nd: Thomas T. and Waylon L.
3rd: Chloe G.
