HAMS Families: Thank you to those of you that came out last night to help us celebrate the accomplishments of our wonderful students!

HAMS Families, I hope you all had a great week. I wanted to share a few things as we go into the weekend. Next week, we will wrap up IAR testing on Monday. Chromebooks will be coming back home with the students Monday afternoon.
On Wednesday, April 21st, the 8th grade will participate in the State Science Assessment, the ISA. Eighth graders that attend in person, will take the ISA during the school day. 8th Graders that are remote learners, will need to come to the building at 1:00 PM to take the assessment. We believe they will be finished by 3:00, but it would be a good idea to make arrangements for them to call someone to pick them up when they are finished, as we have no way to know how long it will actually take them to complete the test.
I also wanted to share that on May 17th we will host the HAMS honors night in the MS gym. All students that attend will be recognized for their efforts and accomplishments this year. Due to social distancing requirements, we are only able to allow students to bring one person with them to Honors Night. More details can be found on a flyer, which has been mailed with your child’s midterm progress report. If you have any questions, please contact the MS office. Thank you and have a great weekend.

Parents of HAMS Remote Learners: Next week, we will have two days of testing. We will finish up IAR on Monday, April 19th. On Wednesday, April 21st, we will take the State Science Assessment. The Science test is for 8th grade students ONLY. We will begin the Science test at 1:00 PM. Students will take three tests that afternoon. This will conclude our State testing. Please contact the MS office if you have questions. Thank you!

Congratulations to our HAMS winners of the annual IL Principals Association honor. These students were chosen by our staff to represent our building with the IPA because they demonstrate qualities such as leadership, citizenship, and accountability. We're so proud of these two!!

HAMS Families,
The Middle School will conduct our annual State testing, IAR, April 12th-April 19th. In person learners are expected to arrive on time, with charged Chromebooks each day during testing. Testing sessions for in person learners will begin at 8:20 each day. If a student arrives after the session has begun, he or she will not be allowed to enter the classroom. They will have to make the test up at a later time.
The State has not provided us with a remote option for testing. That means that our remote learners will need to come into the building every day for testing. Testing sessions for remote learners will be every day from April 12th-April 19th. Please check our school website for the testing schedule. Remote learners are expected to arrive on time, with charged Chromebooks each day during testing. Remote learners will be split into small groups, with adequate spacing for social distancing during testing. Masks are still required for entrance to our building. If you have any questions, please call the MS office.

As we get ready to welcome our students back tomorrow, HAMS would like to recognize the hard work of three students in particular prior to break. Congratulations to these Remote Learners of the Week. The HAMS staff can't wait to see all of our students again in person and virtually.

HAMS Parents, Teen Reach will close at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 18th.

HAMS is so very proud of this group of remote learners!

HAMS Families:
Hello! Mrs. Walder, here!
I am going to do student chats during homeroom class periods! This means I will come to class and pass out a handout on where to get support and help if needed. We will briefly cover several topics like: depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide, lgbtq, ptsd, etc. We will not go into detail about these things, it is simply to reach out and give information about who to talk to and get support from if any students would like more information. If you have any questions please feel free to call Mrs. Walder at 217-283-0377 or send an email at walderen@hoopeston.k12.il.is To opt out of these mini chat sessions, please contact the HAMS office.

Hoopeston Area Middle School Families, there are a few things to know as we approach the end of the quarter and semester. First, we will not be administering semester exams. While teachers will be having tests during the final week of the quarter, their purpose will be to wrap up the current chapter or unit prior to break.
Also, all work from this quarter will be due by the end of the day on Friday, December 18th for in person learners and no later than Monday, December 21st at 8:30 AM for remote learners. The only exception to this will be tests that need to be made up for students that were absent or quarantined on test days. If your child falls into this category, HAMS staff will be reaching out to you to schedule a time to get the test or tests made up. Make up days will be January 4th and 5th. If you know your child will be absent on December 17th and/or 18th, please make arrangements with your child’s teachers to get their tests taken before those dates.
Lastly, school will resume for students on January 6th. This is a change to the original calendar. When we return from the holiday break, HAMS students will begin attending in person on Wednesdays. We will continue to dismiss at 12:20 all five days of the week. There will be no change to our schedule on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. On Wednesdays students will meet with their teachers for periods 1-6. Their remote work on Wednesdays will be for periods 7 and 8 only.
If you have any questions, please contact the HAMS office at 217-283-6664. Thank you!

I'm honored to share photos of three of our most recent Remote Learners of the Week. The HAMS staff is so proud of all of our students, but these three have been working so hard, we felt they deserved some special recognition. Congratulations to our Remote Learners of the Week!
