Good Morning, Hoopeston Area Families,

As we prepare to begin our 2nd semester of the 25-26 school year. The district would like to share the protocols for dealing with inclement weather during the school day. The following options are available to the district to keep students and staff safe. All efforts will be made to designate and notify the plan for the day, the evening before, to provide families with as much time as possible to prepare. There are many variables taken into account when making adjustments to the school day due to inclement weather, but the safety of our students and staff is of the greatest concern.

Delayed start

A delayed start would count as one of our 176 attendance days required by ISBE. We would make every effort to provide early notification of this plan. The day would begin two (2) hours later than a typical day. This plan could be beneficial in the event of heavy fog or in providing additional time for road crews to clear roads during snowfall. Ultimately, we would pause the start of school until conditions are more conducive for student and staff travel. The school day would run from 10:10 am to 2:45 pm. School bus routes would also run on a two (2) hour delay.

E-Learning Day

An E-Learning day may be called if conditions are too treacherous for student and staff travel. An E-Learning Day would count toward our 176 required attendance days per ISBE. We would make every effort to provide early notification of this plan. The abbreviated learning day would be conducted through electronic methods or a packet sent home by the school.

Emergency Day

An Emergency day may be called if conditions are too treacherous for student and staff travel. An Emergency day does not count toward the 176 attendance days and is required by statute to be made up at the end of the school year.
