Good Evening Hoopeston Area Families,

This is Superintendent Robert Richardson with an important update regarding the critical plumbing repair at Hoopeston Area High School. Plumbers discovered a back up from the kitchen garbage disposal waste which had plugged the drainage line. The blockage resulted in spilled contents and an odor that emanated from the girls’ locker room. After identifying the problem, the plumbers removed the clogged kitchen material, cleaned the contaminated area, installed new plastic lining, replaced the affected pipe sections within the tunnels beneath the school, and the odor issue was resolved. In addition, Buildings & Grounds located an exhaust fan that served the area that was inoperable and restored that as well. I checked on the area in question through the weekend, and the odor has not returned.

Every school year we manage planned, as well as unpredictable, system issues that emerge from our aging facilities. And while we cannot foresee all issues, we will strive to manage our systems to ensure the best operation possible. Hoopeston Area CUSD #11 will be in session on Monday November 24. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
