ALICE Training for safety of students and staff

Body

Hello Hoopeston Area Families,

On Friday September 19, Hoopeston Area Schools will be participating in ALICE training with our students and staff. The purpose of ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) is to provide individuals and organizations with a proactive, options-based approach to survive violent incidents, such as active shooter situations. It teaches strategies for recognizing danger, communicating threats, securing locations, providing real-time information to authorities, disrupting an attacker, and evacuating to safety when possible, thereby empowering people to make informed decisions to increase positive outcomes. The training will be conducted in cooperation with Hoopeston Police Department and Vermilion County Sheriff's Department. We are informing our communities of this training as multiple law enforcement and first responder vehicles will be at and around our school buildings. We want everyone to know that the first responder and vehicle presence is simply a part of the professional training and not a cause for concern. While we hope to never need this kind of training, we are confident that it is best to be prepared.
