Good Morning Hoopeston Area Families,

As we begin the 2nd semester of the 23-24 school year, I want to discuss the snow day vs. E-Learning day processes. A snow day is called due to inclement weather that could place student and staff safety at risk when traveling to school. A snow day does not require instruction or school work to be accomplished. When a Snow day is called the district is not in session due to an adverse weather event. Snow days must be made up at the end of the school year.

E-Learning days are called for the same reasons as a snow day, but the students are required by law to participate in five (5) hours of instruction. Our staff have prepared packets for the students to continue learning while the district is closed due to inclement weather. E-Learning days are not required to be made up at the end of the school year. We will make every attempt to notify families as early as possible in the event the typical school day procedures change by a snow day or E-Learning day. Administration takes student and staff safety very seriously and will always make decisions regarding snow days or E-Learning days from a viewpoint of what is best for student safety.

With the winter weather forecast for the end of the week. We will be observing conditions, reaching out to professionals in the area and driving district roads to check the safety of transporting students. E-Learning days if needed will be called when possible the day prior to the day to allow families the greatest amount of time to make arrangements for their children.
