HAMS Families, 

Here are this week's remote learning activities.  Please remember to reach out to teachers via email or Google Classroom if you have questions.  Thank you for your continued dedication to learning.  Stay healthy! 

Week of:  4/20

Directions:  Complete each assignment listed below.  All materials will be posted on Google Classroom.  If you need to pick up hard copies of the materials, the building will be open on Monday from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or by appointment (email Mrs. White- whiteml@hoopeston.k12.il.us).

6th Grade

ELA

  1. Read “The Hero and the Minotaur” p. 523-535 and answer the text questions.

  1. Read over the vocabulary definitions sheet and complete the antonyms assignment.

  2. Read AR book 20 minutes daily

  3. Work on Edgenuity for 20 minutes per day, twice per week

  2. We are beginning our new unit on Life Science called “Where Have All the Creatures Gone?”  Complete Activity 1.1, “Interactions in Our World” in Life Science Lesson 1 on IQWST or in the packet.

  3. Life Science Lesson 1 Reading One, “Bacteria, Chimps, Peanuts, and Dolphins” on IQWST or in packet.  Read thoughtfully and answer carefully.

NOTE: For those with online access, Mr. Wells’ 6th grade science class will have a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, April 22 at 10am to review Earth Science Unit and Introduce Life Science Unit.  More details will be posted to Google Classroom.

Social Studies

6th Grade Social Studies Work for the Week of 4/20/20 to 4/24/20:

1). Current Events- CNN10 VIew on 4-20-20 and complete the write-up form. View a Television News Broadcast on 4-21-20 of your choice and complete the write-up form.

2). Discovery Education:

* Reread Concepts 9.1-9.3-Engage, Explore, and Evaluate Tabs

* CER Chapter 9- Prometheus: Concept 9.3 Explore page 9: Read and Complete Questions on Google Classroom

* Chapter 9 Test- Complete on Google Classroom/You may use your online textbook as resource to help you complete the test

* For students who do not have Internet Access paper copies will be available for pickup

3). All assignments count towards your quarter grade and require your completion and effort to help improve your academic standing.

1).I know this Challenge was created for Maple Students but we would love to see if 6th Grade Students can complete. Next week Mr Gossett and Myself are challenging you to become more mobile. We are combining Art and P.E. to help you stay motivated during these trying times. Did you know there is a type of art known as kinetic art? It is a form of art that depends on movement for its effect. So lets get up and move! You will be the work of art! While you are completing you could have someone video you or take pictures of you or you could even draw a picture of you trying out the challenge. Don't forget to share it with us. Go to this YouTube link to get your directions and explanations.

  2. QUIZIZZ Assignment: Inequalities. Remember we want accuracy, not speed!

  3. ALEKS: Complete 10 topics.
