John Greer School Community -

To facilitate learning from March 30 - April 7 (and maybe beyond), we intend to have the following materials available for checkout at John Greer on Monday, March 23, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

1 Chromebook (Teachers plan on using Google Classroom and Zoom to deliver directions, work, and instruction.  If these are applications you can already access through technology in your home, you may decide not to check out a Chromebook.)
2 Reading text
3 Math workbooks

To make this process efficient and safe, we ask that no parent or child enter the John Greer building.  All materials will be available by grade level at the following doors:

5th - Penn Street doors (south side of the building)
4th - Recess doors (east side of the building)
3rd - Main Street doors (north side of the building)

It will be necessary for you to sign 2 papers that will help us account for these materials.  I have attached the Chromebook Take-Home Agreement to this message so you'll know what you are agreeing to.  We'll try to make the process quick for everyone but please be patient.

A couple miscellaneous notes:

1 Teachers will not be assigning or sending work during Spring Break.  However, a teacher may choose to communicate with you next week in preparation for future learning.  For sure, expect additional direction and communication from teachers starting on March 30.

2 We understand that not everyone has Internet access.  Teachers are preparing packets of activities that will be available during the week of March 30.  More information on this will come later.

3 We will have tables of books set up outside each door on Monday.  These are all free.  Help yourself.

4 Accelerated Reader settings have been adjusted so that students can take quizzes from home.  However, our focus during this closure is to have students read books whether they have an AR test or not.  If a student wishes to take a test, please stress that he/she needs to have read the book.

Finally, in case you're wondering, if you closely read the 'Stay-at-Home' order from the IL Governor, what we plan to do on Monday is classified as an essential activity.

Again, I want to thank John Greer's teachers for their professionalism and selflessness.  If you're able to stop by on Monday, you'll witness that for yourself.

Take care!
Mr. Walder
