Cornjerker Soccer Coaches
Head coach: john klaber
Coach John Klaber will be entering his thirteenth year as the head coach for the Cornjerkers during the 2017 season. Klaber, a 2004 graduate of Eastern Illinois University, began his coaching career as an assistant soccer coach while student teaching at Danville High School. Klaber, a graduate of Hoopeston Area High School, accepted the Cornjerker's head coaching position the next year. Coach Klaber holds soccer coaching certifications from both the USSF and the NSCAA.
In twelve years as head coach for the Cornjerkers, Coach Klaber has compiled a record of 161-65-16. During that time, the Jerkers have advanced to the state sweet sixteen twice, won three regional titles, won nine Vermilion Valley Conference titles, and had the first ever undefeated regular season in school history.
Coach Klaber lives in Hoopeston with his wife Whitley and daughter Madox, where he is the Middle School Student Support Services Coordinator.
Coach Kevin Root is entering his eleventh year as a member of the Cornjerker Soccer Coaching Staff. Coach Root is a graduate of Hoopeston Area and was a member of multiple state basketball teams when he played here. When he graduated from Eureka College he returned to Hoopeston Area to teach and coach. He will be working again this year to help to continue to develope and grow the success of the Cornjerker Soccer program.
Coach Root lives in Hoopeston with his wife Suzi and their children, Karsen, Rhys, and Owen. He is a teacher at Hoopeston Area High School and serves as the district webmaster in charge of the districts website.
Coach Brent Lockhart is entering his second year as an assistant coach for the Cornjerkers. When in high school he played four years for the Cornjerkers and then went on to play college soccer at Clearwater Christian College. He is now bringing his knowledge and love of the game to the sideline to help develop this years team.
Coach Lockhart lives in Hoopeston with his wife Margie where he helps work and run his family farm and livestock business.
Coach Alex Morales is entering his twelfth year as the goalie coach for the Cornjerkers. Morales, a Texas native, played semi-professional soccer as a goalie for the Cosmos in Quintanaroo, Mexico. In 1999, he and his wife, Myrna, moved to Illinois. Coach Morales holds an Advanced Regional Diploma for the NSCAA and now uses his knowledge and experience to help develop the Cornjerker goalies.
Coach Morales and his wife live in Hoopeston with their two sons Jonathan and Orlando and their two daughters Myrella and Myranda.
