Jim Richards

ames E Richards was born in Hoopeston and graduated from Hoopeston High School in 1958.  He graduated from Eastern IL University with a Bachelors Degree in Education where he was a 2 year letterman in Gymnastics.  He received a Masters degree from University of Illinois.  He began teaching in Hoopeston in 1968-69 as a Driver Education/Physical Education teacher, and as Head Wrestling Coach.  He retired from coaching in 1981-82, returned for the 1986-87 season, and again for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.

His career record as Head Wrestling Coach is 262-93-4.  Coach Richards had 9 Wrestlers advance and place at the State Championships.  David Grant, 1979, was the 119 lb. State Champion.

Coach Richards officiated for 22 IKWF (Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation)  State Tournaments.  He was honored as Grand Marshal for the IKWF State Tournament in 2003. Coach Richards was inducted into the IWCOA (Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association) in 2007.   He served as Co-Chairman for the Illinois Wrestling Officials for seventeen years.  He continues to be a Wrestling official in the State of Illinois.
