Herb Reed

HERB REED PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR HOOPESTON HIGH SCHOOL FROM 1925-1927. AN OFFENSIVE GUARD AND DEFENSIVE TACKLE, HE WAS ALSO THE TEAM’S KICKER.

HERB WAS NAMED CO-CAPTAIN OF THE UNDEFEATED 1927 TEAM. THAT YEAR HE ALSO WAS SELECTED ALL COUNTY, ALL CENTRAL EASTERN ILLINOIS, AND BECAME THE FIRST FOOTBALL PLAYER FROM HOOPESTON TO BE NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL STATE.

HERB WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK TEAM WHERE HE SET SEVERAL SCHOOL RECORDS AND WAS NAMED CAPTAIN OF THE 1928 TEAM.


A VETERAN OF WWII, HERB WORKED FOR MANY YEARS AT FMC AND THEN STARTED HIS OWN CONTRACTING BUSINESS HERE IN HOOPESTON.  HE ALSO SERVED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE AREA’S CARPENTER’S UNION.  HE PASSED AWAY IN 1982.
