Reminder - Thursday, 2/18, is a Remote Learning Day at Hoopeston Area due to staff vaccinations. John Greer students will receive a packet of work today that must be completed on Thursday and returned on Friday. The packet must be turned in so you child can be counted present on 2/18.
If your John Greer child is absent today, please stop by today or Thursday to pick up the work packet. Thanks!

As a reminder - Valentine's Day is approaching. Consistent with Maple Elementary, we will not do a student Valentine exchange this year for sanitization reasons. Rather, John Greer is planning a PBIS Ice Cream Social for that day. John Greer will provide all the product needed and students will be individually served.

Please enjoy the 3rd Grade & 4th Grade Christmas Program. Thank you to everyone at John Greer for your help getting our students recorded! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

The 5th and 6th Grade Chorus members submitted videos for a virtual choir this year. I’m very proud of all the students and I believe that their achievements and hard work will be self-evident. It has been a pleasure working with your children and helping them bring out their beautiful voices! Enjoy the show!

For the last several weeks the 5th and 6th grade students have been working hard to create their own mini STOMP inspired compositions. I wanted to share a few pictures of some of the projects presented today in Mrs. Gress, Mrs. Weeks, and Mr. Soderstrom’s classes. For the project, they had to bring in several non-musical objects to play. Then they created three (or more!) rhythms to layer on top of one another. These percussive creations were thought up after discussing the musical qualities of seemingly mundane objects as demonstrated by the popular group STOMP. The kids really took leadership roles and helped each other learn their parts. You can see a few students really enjoyed taking on the role of the conductor! Great job guys!

A meeting for parents/guardians of fifth and sixth grade band and chorus members will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, August 27) at 6:30pm in the John Greer library. Please let either Mrs. Mandel or Mr. Smith know if you will be unable to attend. We are looking forward to a fantastic year of music making!

We've had a wonderful start to the school year at John Greer. Today we're thankful that the temperature and humidity has decreased. I also wanted everyone to note that our students are doing a wonderful job getting to school on time by 8:20. Have a great weekend!

Today, Mrs. Walder’s class watched a brainpop video and discussed what happened on September 11, 17 years ago. Mrs. Walder explained how she was in 5th grade, just like them, when it happened. After discussing what happened, why it happened, and how it affected everyone’s lives both then and now, they talked about the heroes that helped.
