Mark Haggerty


Mark attended Hoopeston East Lynn High School from 1981-1985. While attending Hoopeston East Lynn, Mark had a stellar career as track and wrestling athlete. Some of his accomplishments include:

  • 1981-- The only freshman to letter in the high school athletic department
  • 4 year letterman in cross country, wrestling and track

Mark earned many awards and acknowledgement while attending Hoopeston East Lynn. Those include:

  • 1980   Second in state in the 1600 m run in 7th grade
  • 1984     City Alderman for Boys State
  • 1984-85   Track State qualifier
  • 1984-85  23 place in state in the cross country with All State Honors
  • 1984-85 Regional champion and sectional qualifier in wrestling
  • 1985 Coach Hobbs Track Award
  • 1985 14th in the state in the two mile run
  • Most valuable athlete candidate
  • Mr. Cornjerker Candidate
  • 5 time recordholder for Presidential Physical Fitness Award
  • National Honor Society

Mark continued his athletic career at Danville Area Community College on a cross country scholarship (4.57 GPA out of 5.0). He was on the Junior College All-American Cross Country Team and was in the top ten at DACC. He qualified for nationals his two years at DACC and was an Academic All-American both years. He was named Outstanding Male Athlete at DACC and was the cross country team captain. A plaque honoring his junior college achievements hangs in the Mary Miller Gym at DACC.

Other accolades include:

  2. Sweetcorn 5K Classic 5th place winner
  3. Kennekuk Road Runner member

Mark was a computer lab assistant while at DACC. He served on a computer apprenticeship at Computer Specialist in Danville, Illinois. He worked at John Deere, Franklin Life Insurance and the Department of Children and Family Services. Currently he resides in Bloomington, Illinois and works as a Technical Analyst for State Farm.
