Ed Byrd

Ed Byrd taught and coached at Hoopeston from 1969 to 1981. Prior to Hoopeston he had taught and coached in Pana, Illinois.

While in Hoopeston, he coached several successful basketball teams. He won regional titles in 1974, 1977, and 1978. He also brought home a sectional title in 1978. That same year they had the first ever super sectional appearance in school history.

His twelve year basketball coaching career yielded 186 wins and 124 losses.

Coach Byrd loved basketball and the kids that participated. He built a basketball program by getting children interested in the sport at an early age.

He left Hoopeston after he accepted a position in Clinton, Illinois, where he was a coach, athletic director and administrative assistant. He retired there.

He currently resides in Clinton, Illinois, and spends his time enjoying his grandchildren.
