Football Team

Accomplishments at Hoopeston Area High School:

  1. 1992 New Gazette All-Area Team included: Chris Timmons (kicker) who made 3 field goals and was 20 of 22 on extra points. Special mention went to Dan Brown (OL), Chris Callahan (LB), Jeff Daizy (E), L.T. Garrett, Jr. (OL), Darren Goodner (OL), Ricky Martinez (RB), Lucas Pyle (RB), Nick Stokes (DB), and Phil Tincher (DB).
  2. 1992 All-Vermilion County Team included: Chris Timmons (RB), Darren Goodner (OL), Chris Timmons (kicker), Jeff Dazey (DE), Chris Timmons (LB), and Phil Tincher (DB).

The 1992 Hoopeston Area Football team was coached by Cliff McClure and featured a roster of 37 players. During this season, the team outscored opponents 169-44 in the regular season. With a season record of 7-2, they qualified for the IHSA 3A state football playoffs. The team was anchored by its defense, which only allowed 27 points and 4 touchdowns during the regular season. The offense included three 700+ rushers in Chris Timmons, Lucas Pyle and Ricky Martinez.

The team comprised of 6 All County Team members, 3 All County Special Mention and 3 All County Honorable Mention players. Of these, one was an All-Area selection and 9 were All-Area Special Mention selections. Many of the team members continued on the following year in successfully making back-to-back playoff appearances.
